Advice From Former Students
"Make sure you are managing your time to do thorough and thoughtful annotations, and are paying attention during discussions because it is extremely helpful in getting a better understanding of the text."
"Try your hardest on every essay opportunity because it will only help you."
"Follow through!"
"My biggest piece of advice would be to PLAN OUT YOUR ANNOTATIONS. Whenever, I saved them all until right before they were due, it was terrible and it was very stressful when combined with the work from all of my other classes too. I also would say to actually put in effort when rewriting the essays to post on your blog instead of just submitting the same one, as this is the best way to really learn from your mistakes."
"Do the best you can--even under tremendous stress--and keep moving forward."
"Take advantage of the help you get in this class, because it has really helped me feel confident in my writing for next year. "
"Be open to new books (including Shakespeare) and pay as much attention as you can during discussions; they make the essay writing process easier!"
"It gets better. It might seem like everything is falling apart or that things are extremely stressful, but it does get better. There are definitely weeks where it seems like IB is not worth it, but in the end it is."
"Really try and engage with the texts that you are studying, and approach them with the mindset that you can learn something about the world from them! Of course, developing literary analysis and writing skills is at the core of the class, and that's all great and important, but I think approaching the class intentionally through the lens of learning something from the texts that you study helps make the class more meaningful and enjoyable."
"I would advise you guys to take all assignments seriously because they are crucial to your success on the final IB exam for this class. Be sure to also attempt to improve anything you struggle with, and you can always ask Mrs. Osburn for help."
